points west ipad magazine app

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

I have recently worked on a very interesting project at Thinkology. We were asked to design an iPad Magazine App for Mercedes Benz Southwest. Being an interactive project I was really keen to understand how I could design a magazine for a tablet. It all turned up well and me and Matt (creative director) enjoyed putting some extra passion on the design workflow for this new device. With InDesign CS5.5 out now I will hopefully work more and more on interactive publications. Bring it on!

i love new york city

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

I have just realised that exactly a year is gone since when I visited New York City in May 2010. I am hoping to visit the Big Apple again fairly soon, because without any doubt the trip to New York has been the best journey I have ever done. I loved everything, the City, the culture, the monuments. Awesome. Wait for me again soon, NYC!

new dunny joins the crew

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

At Artscode HQ dunnies are kings. I love all sort of cute vynyl toys and Kidrobot’s dunnies – of course. This version designed by Tokidoki is definitely one of my faves! Watch this space for new entries soon.

Artscode business cards

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

I have recently designed some simple & clean business cards for Artscode HQ. I wanted to have the artscode logo ready for a neat black and white version, hence the idea. The cards have been printed in lovely Bath by the great guys at Ripe Digital, which always give great advice in terms of paper and ink.
I have also decided to put some of my recent works in a booklet, watch this space!

lives of the artists

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

This is just awesome. Seriously. I am very very happy to have had the chance to be featured in the Lives of the Artists in Digital Artist magazine UK. I love reading design magazines and I really like Digital Artist’s style. It has been an honor for me to be listed in there. If you have the chance grab a copy, Issue 18, lots of interesting articles in there. Stay tuned for other stuff coming soon!

a printed tweet makes me happy

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

On Issue 148 of Computer Arts Project UK one of my tweets has been published on the ‘Big Question’ panel at the beginning of the magazine. The question was ‘How do you turn a good logo into a good brand?’ My answer to this question was ‘A good logo really needs to match the company’s personality. Strong personality plus good logo = great brand. Starbucks got it right.’ I was really happy to see my words printed there! Thank you for being so kind!

ladies who latte printed business cards

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

Finally we got back the new cards for Ladies Who Latte from the printers! I really like the finishing they have put into the project. There’s also a nice Spot UV effect on the back of the card. I am really looking forward to have the client feedback on this nice little project.

ladies who latte

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

I recently had the chance to work on a great and super funny project at Thinkology HQ, a new identity design;
to be more specific it is a new business based in the South West of England named ‘Ladies Who Latte’. It is a new venture that helps businesswomen to improve their approach with clients and their own business. I have also designed some bespoke business cards for them and a new website is in the pipeline, but to be honest I couldn’t wait to post the new logo here on my blog. Watch this space, new Ladies Who Latte’s stuff coming soon!

sticker award book first edition

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

Some time ago I went into Waterstone in Exeter. As usual, I went straight to the Art and Design section (unfortunately I can’t seem to cure this addiction of mine…) and after flipping a few books’ and manuals’ pages, I opted for the 1st international Sticker Award volume
I was very surprised when I realised that page 146 featured one of my designs. I was not aware of it being published at all, especially considering it is a 5-year-old small sticker design. Nevertheless, I am proud to have contributed to such a quirky publication :) Thank you Sticker Award Crew!

my fixed gear bike

Posted by Fabio Benedetti

My imagination has been recently captured by the amazing world of fixed gear bikes. Bikes and cycling have always been a passion of mine, even though I have never considered it seriously and never went from amateur to professional.
As for fixies, what really appeals is the fact that design can be easily customised, and with a tad of creativeness here and a quirky touch there, you can create truly unique models and stand out from the crowd.
This is why, last November, I started collecting all the parts to build a unique bike – and I learnt a lot of the most technical side of the business, including how a bike really works. For the first time I realised what’s what and that was very cool!
On eBay and Velosolo I ordered all the parts I needed for the custom bike – and I am very proud of it, indeed. For a relatively decent sum, I managed to build my fixie fairly quickly and although I still have to learn a few tricks, I am very happy with it!
An interesting fact: mine is a 1978 Raleigh, refurbished frame that has been repainted and assembled. Because of its colour – turquoise – and my Italian heritage (I’m from Tuscany) I named it Freccia Azzurra (blue arrow). In the near future, I am hoping to set up a dedicated microsite; in the meantime, I set up a Flickr account so please have a browse.
Fixed gear bikes come in plenty of models – and certainly much cooler than this – but I have to say that more than once I was asked about the bike by random people of all ages! I was more than happy to explain what I did and how to them and felt a little proud of my ‘baby’. It would be great to build  – or even design – other bikes in the future. In fact, the next one is being planned for summer 2011: I already have a vintage frame ready to use so… watch this space!
